St Patrick’s Day moved to the Twelfth when it’s not Baltic

St Patrick’s Day is to be moved to the Twelfth of July in an attempt to find some half decent weather that might allow people to leave the house.

The plan follows a series of high level talks between the Orange Order and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, which saw the two sides agree that combining the events was the best option for everyone.

“It makes perfect sense, culturally,” AoH President Mick Oats-Green told a joint press conference. “We like marching, they like marching, we like flags, they like flags. Ours even has a wee bit of Orange stuck on the end.”

“It’s time for a bit of temperature equality. Themuns have been getting the good weather for decades, while we freeze our little green bollocks off in March.”

Orange Order chief Sam Begdrum claimed that the new event would also have commercial benefits. “There’ll be loads of cross community grants that’ll be available,” he said. “All we have to do is barbecue a few snakes on the Eleventh and wear big leprechaun hats instead of bowlers on the Twelfth.  We’ll coin it in, begorragh.”

The police also back the proposal, with the Chief constable quick to allay any security concerns. “We’re pretty sure that having thousands of people from opposing factions parading around our town centres at the same time won’t cause any bother,” he told us.

“Plus it’s in the summer so all the students who go buck mental in the Holylands will be back in in Tyrone, so we’ll save a fortune on policing that shitstorm.”

St Patrick’s Orangefest will begin in 2020, with the spare bank holiday moved to 3rd December, in honour of Eamonn Holmes’ birthday.

Plans for a drunken student rampage on “Holmesday” are believed to be at an advanced stage.
